Composing a Life through Creativity
Shifting Colors is a set of five short movements for solo harp, each exploring a different mood through the use of various timbres, rhythms, and pitch materials. Moments is a static, atmospheric piece using repeated notes and short melodic fragments. Són is loosely based on the Latin American rhythm after which it is named, with pedal glissandi emphasizing the distinctive rhythmic pattern. The pattern gradually disintegrates over the course of the movement. Becoming expresses yearning through a melancholic opening theme that is developed through fragmentation and inverted counterpoint. Taut is composed of noise sounds and low registral effects to create tension. Dancing, based on the Cuban punto guajiro, uses interchanging duple and triple divisions of the measure to create a lively dance form.
