Moirologia

 

Moirologia, for solo piano, is dedicated to my late father-in-law, Guido Fernández. The title refers to Greek funeral laments composed and sung by women, which are now discouraged by the Church. The piece alternates between sections of floating melodic lines over lower register stopped pitches and sections composed of layered ostinati that build tension. This piece was commissioned by Marta Robertson, Professor of Musicology at Gettysburg College.
